About This Day Trip
Five Villages. One Spectacular Coast.

Cinque Terre is one of those places that looks exactly like the photographs — and still manages to surprise you when you actually arrive. Five ancient fishing villages built directly into the cliffs above the Ligurian sea, each one with its own character, its own harbour and its own particular shade of coloured plaster. Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, Monterosso — five names that have become synonymous with the Italian coastline at its most dramatic.

The day begins in Portovenere — a UNESCO-listed medieval village at the southern tip of the Cinque Terre coast, just 35 minutes from La Spezia. Walk the medieval borgo, climb to the Church of San Pietro on its rocky promontory above the turquoise water, and take in one of the finest views on the Ligurian coast before boarding the ferry north. From Portovenere, the ferryboat sails past all five villages — the perspective from the sea is the one that makes the Cinque Terre legendary, impossible to get any other way.

You can disembark at any village and explore on foot — Manarola for the iconic clifftop view, Vernazza for the medieval harbour and castle promontory, Monterosso for the beach and a seafood lunch. Between villages, the Cinque Terre Express train connects them all in minutes. Two or three villages done properly is worth more than five rushed — your driver will help you plan the sequence that makes the most sense for the day.

For those who want something completely off the tourist route, Portovenere offers an optional water taxi crossing to the Isola di Palmaria — a car-free island with crystal-clear water, hidden coves and a handful of waterfront restaurants. It takes time, but it is one of those experiences that stays with you precisely because nobody else is doing it.

Your driver collects you from your hotel or any address in Tuscany — Florence, Lucca, Forte dei Marmi, Viareggio, Montecatini or wherever you are staying — and returns you to the same address at the end of the day. The hourly rate covers everything from the moment you step in the car to the moment you are dropped back. Ferry and train tickets are paid separately on board.

How the Day Works
Your Suggested Itinerary

This is our recommended sequence. Every stop and timing can be adjusted — your driver will suggest the best route based on the season, weather and your starting point.

Start
🏠 Pickup — Your Address

Your driver collects you from your hotel or any address in Tuscany. The earlier you leave, the more time you have on the coast — we recommend departing by 8:00am from Florence, later if you are closer to the Ligurian coast.

⏱ Time: your choice · departure from your address
Stop 1
⛪ Portovenere — Medieval Village & Church of San Pietro

Your driver drops you in Portovenere — a UNESCO-listed medieval borgo at the southern tip of the Cinque Terre coast. Walk the narrow main street, climb to the Church of San Pietro on its rocky promontory above the turquoise sea and take in one of the finest views on the Ligurian coast before boarding the ferry.

⏱ Recommended: 1–1.5 hrs · approx. 35 min from La Spezia
Optional
⛵ Isola di Palmaria — Water Taxi

Just in front of Portovenere lies Palmaria — a car-free island with crystal-clear water, hidden coves and waterfront restaurants. A short water taxi crossing and a world away from the tourist crowds. If you choose this option, allow 2.5–3 hours and plan to see fewer Cinque Terre villages afterwards. A perfectly valid choice — just make it consciously.

⏱ Optional: 2.5–3 hrs · water taxi paid separately
✦ On request
Stop 2
🚢 Ferry North — Cinque Terre Villages

Board the ferryboat from Portovenere and sail north past all five villages — the perspective from the sea is the one that makes the Cinque Terre legendary. Disembark at Manarola for the iconic clifftop view, Vernazza for the medieval harbour and castle promontory, or Monterosso for the beach and a seafood lunch. Between villages, the Cinque Terre Express train connects them all in minutes. Ferry and train tickets are paid directly on board.

⏱ Recommended: 3–4 hrs · ferry tickets paid on board
End
🏠 Return — Your Pickup Address

Your driver collects you at an agreed point — typically Monterosso al Mare at Via Fegina — and returns you to your exact pickup address. If the weather turns and the ferry is not running, your driver adapts the route: direct to Riomaggiore and the Cinque Terre Express train instead. Same day, same villages, different route.

⏱ Estimated return: between 6:00pm and 8:00pm

How to Book
Calculate Your Price & Book Online

The calculator below works on an hourly rate. Follow these three steps to get your instant price and complete your booking directly online.

01
Select Hourly tab

Click the Hourly Service tab in the calculator below. This is the only tab to use for day trips — €80/hr for E-Class, €100/hr for V-Class. Minimum 3 hours.

02
Same address in & out

Enter your hotel or pickup address as both pickup and drop-off. This is mandatory — the hourly rate is calculated as a round trip returning to the same address.

03
Choose your total hours

Select the total hours you want your driver for the whole day. For Cinque Terre we recommend 8 to 10 hours from Florence, 6 to 8 hours from Lucca, Forte dei Marmi or Viareggio. Choose your date, start time and proceed.

🚘 Returning to a different address or adding an extra stop? If your drop-off is not the same as your pickup — for example you are ending the day at a different hotel or continuing to another city — do not use the hourly calculator. Use the Distance tab on our Get a Quote page →
🚢 Ferry and train tickets are not included in the hourly rate — they are paid directly on board. The Cinque Terre park access card may also be required depending on the season. Your driver will advise on the day.
